Other Wines from Portugal

A rather long list. Fortunately. Since there are several preferences. Red, rosé, white or liqueur.

Alenquer

In the center of the Lisbon Region, in Alenquer (DOC) are produced some of the best red and white wines of the region. Among the varieties used are Arinto and See more: Alenquer Wines

Arruda

The vineyards of Arruda DOC are situated in the center of the Lisbon Region, in the county of Arruda dos Vinhos. The vineyards occupy an area of 2,120 ha on the slopes of the county that has wine up to its name. See more: Wines from Arruda dos Vinhos

Bairrada

The vineyards of DOC Bairrada, which occupy an area of 12,000 ha, are located northwest of Coimbra, Central Portugal. The producing municipalities of Bairrada DOC are Anadia, Cantanhede, Mealhada and Oliveira do Bairro. See more: Bairrada Wines

Beira Interior

The vineyards of Beira Interior (DOP) are spread over the Serra da Estrela slopes, 500 - 700m high, in Pinhel and Castelo Rodrigo (north of Guarda) and Cova da Beira, halfway between Guarda and Castelo Branco. Biscoitos

The IPR (Indicated Controled Provenance) Biscoitos vineyards are located on Biscoitos Island, Azores Archipelago.

Bucelas

White wines producer of great prestige, "the prince of the white wines of Portugal", "the wine of Shakespeare", Bucelas DOC is situated to the south of the Region of Lisbon. This was the second wine area to be demarcated after the Douro. The white wines of Bucelas are able to preserve their qualities for several years, being for this reason taken in the voyages during the time of the Discoveries. See more: Wines from Bucelas.

Carcavelos

The vineyards of Carcavelos DOC, in the southern region of Lisbon, produce few wines because their lands are increasingly coveted by real estate developers in Lisbon. Main varieties: Arinto, Fernão Pires (white), Aragonez, Touriga (reds). See more: Wines from Carcavelos

Colares

The vineyards of Colares DOC, "one of the most original and alternative denominations of Portugal" [1], are in the southern region of Lisbon, and produce few wines. See more: Wines from Colares

Douro

The first demarcated region of Portugal and the oldest wine region in the world (1756). Do not confuse with the Denomination of Origin Porto, relative only to liqueur wines. From the vineyards of the DOC Douro are produced some of the best reds and whites of Portugal. See more: Douro Wines

Encostas d'Aire

Encostas d'Aire The vineyards occupy the largest cultivated area of the northern region of Lisbon, on the slopes of Serra de Aires, in the municipalities of Batalha, Porto de Mós and Ourém, where are situated the Encostas d'Aire DOC. Besides these, they include part of the counties of Alcobaça, Caldas da Rainha, Leiria and Pombal. In addition to the local varieties, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are also used. Graciosa

The vineyards of Graciosa IPR (Indication of Regulated Provenance) are located in Graciosa Island, Archipelago of the Azores.

Lafões

The vineyards of Lafões DOC extend through the lands of the Center of Portugal, in the District of Viseu and, more precisely, in the municipalities of Oliveira de Frades, São Pedro do Sul and Vouzela, along the Vouga River Valley. See more: Wines from Lafões

Lagoa

The vineyards of Lagoa DOC are located in the Algarve, the southernmost of the wine-growing areas of Portugal.

Lagos

The vineyards of Lagos DOC are located in the Algarve, the southernmost of the wine-growing areas of Portugal.

Lourinhã

Óbidos

The vineyards of Óbidos DOP are located in the center of the Lisbon Region, covering part of the municipalities of Bombarral, Cadaval, Caldas da Rainha and Óbidos, which produce wines and sparkling wines. "Surrounded by its 14th century wall, which still preserves its medieval identity, Óbidos constitutes the ex-libris of an important agricultural region, where the vineyard has always occupied a predominant place". Palmela

The Palmela vineyards, located south of Lisbon, produce the famous wines of Palmela DOC, on the Setúbal Peninsula. See more: Wines from Palmela

Pico

Pico IPR (Regulated Provenance Indication) vineyards are located on Pico Island, Azores Archipelago.

Portimão

The vineyards of Portimão DOC are located in the Algarve, the southernmost of the wine-growing areas of Portugal.

Ribatejo

The wines of the Ribatejo PDO are crossed by the Tagus River. In these vineyards wines with PGI "Tejo" are also produced. The Denomination of Origin of Ribatejo comprises six sub-regions: Almeirim, Cartaxo, Chamusca, Coruche, Santarém and Tomar. As regards breeds, traditional varieties are used in the production of Ribatejo wines, namely Trincadeira, Touriga (reds) and Fernão Pires e Arinto (white). See more: Ribatejo Wines

Setúbal

The Setúbal vineyards, located south of Lisbon, produce the famous Setúbal wines (liqueur wine, the famous Moscatel de Setúbal) and Palmela DOC, as well as the IGP Península de Setúbal wine. See more: Wines from Setúbal

Tavira

The vineyards of Tavira DOC are located in the Algarve, the southernmost wine area in Portugal.

Torres Vedras

The vineyards of Torres Vedras DOC are situated in the center of the Lisbon Region. The vineyards cover hills and hills and occupy an area of just over 7,000 ha. As it was reported, "almost all people of taste, and delicate taste, who drink of the private wine, even prefer it to the one of the Douro, and to the best foreigner, for ordinary use of the table". Trás-os-Montes
