The Parish of Santo Antônio resulted from the merger of the parishes of S. Joseph, Heart of Jesus and St. Mamede is located right in the heart of Lisbon, part of the Historical Center of Lisbon.

The parish of Santo Antônio is the third least populated parish in the municipality (municipality) of Lisbon.

The parish of Santo Antônio, which is located in the northern part of the Historical Center of Lisbon from the City of Lisbon is crossed by the elegant Avenida da Liberdade, which connects Rossio to the Eduardo VII Park, one of the most beautiful in the city.

With 1.49 km², the parish of Santo Antônio has a population of 11,062 inhabitants (INE, 2021). In 2011, the parish had 11,836 inhabitants (idem), having had a small drop in population resident during this period.

Residential neighborhood
Santo Antônio is an essentially residential neighborhood, with wide and relatively quiet streets, with beautiful traditional and residential buildings. Well served by public transport, with access via four subway stations (Avenida, Rato, Restauradores and Parque).

Location

The parish of Santo Antônio borders the parish of Misericórdia to the south, with the parish of Santa Maria Maior to the southeast, with the parish of Arroios to the east and northeast, with the parish of Avenidas Novas to the north, with the parish of Campolide, to the northeast, with the parish of Campo de Ourique, to the west and, with the parish of Estrela to the southwest.

About the Parish of Santo Antônio

The parish of Santo Antônio, a noble neighborhood in Lisbon, peaceful and well served by transport utilities and other services, is considered one of the best places to live in the Portuguese capital.

Central neighborhood, with excellent infrastructure, well served by transport (accessible by four stations on the metro and Carris buses), safe and clean.


A bit of history

A place of great importance for the history of Lisbon and Portugal, the parish of Santo Antonio, has its origins in the Middle Ages: "At the end of the 12th century, and under the authority of the Bishopric of Lisbon, the ten first parishes (delimited land, in the city or in the countryside, where individuals who followed the same cult, having as main point the temple or the main church). In 1247, São Mamede, famous for housing the Lisbon Botanical Garden and the National Press Building. It is the oldest of the parishes that today make up that of Santo António" [JF de Santo Antôio].

More recently, the Parish of Santo Antônio was created in 2012, with the merger of the parishes of S. Joseph, Heart of Jesus and Saint Mamede.
