The Heart of Lisbon
Baixa de Lisboa is the heart of Lisbon, its most important monuments and attractions: Praça do Comércio, Rossio,
Sé (Cathedral) of Lisbon, Chiado, Alfama and São Jorge Castle.

Location
From east to west, it runs between the
Lisbon Cathedral and the
São Jorge Castle to the
Cais do Sodré,
Chiado and
Bairro Carmo.
And from the
River Tagus to the north, from
Terreiro do Paço to
Rossio and the
Praça da Figueira. It was one of the areas that suffered most from the
Earthquake of 1755, which

Downtown Pombaline
The
Baixa Pombalina is a reference to the
Marquês de Pombal, who after the destruction
of the city by a violent earthquake in 1755, he commanded - in his style, which became known as the Pombaline style - the
reconstruction of Lisbon.
