The Terroirs of Portuguese wines are 14 in number, namely: Vinhos Verdes, Trás-os-Montes, Douro, Távora-Varosa, Dão, Bairrada, Beira Interior, Lisboa, Tejo, Península de Setúbal, Alentejo, Algarve, Madeira and Azores.

For a small country like Portugal, these soils extend from north to south and cover an area of 199 thousand ha. Portugal has the fourth largest wine production area in Europe. Which makes Portugal the 11th. world producer of wines, with 6.7 million hectoliters. This shows the economic importance of this activity for the country.
