The parish of
Misericórdia was created with the merger of the parishes of
Encarnação,
Santa Catarina, Mercês and São Paulo in the
Lisbon Historic Center area.
Here is the famous and charming
Bairro Alto, one of the liveliest places at night in the City
from Lisbon.
The parish of
Misericórdia is
the least populated parish
of the municipality of Lisbon.

Area and Population
Significant drop in resident population
With 2.19 km², the
Parish of Misericórdia has a population of 9,660 inhabitants
(INE, 2021). In 2011, the parish had 13,044 inhabitants (idem), having had a significant drop (-25.94%) in the population
resident during this period.
Tourist attractions
The Ascensor da Bica, Ascensor da Glória, Bairro Alto, Bica dos Olhos, several fountains, Convent of Jesus, Convent of
