The County (State) of Santarém, in central Portugal whose head office is located 363 km to the north of the city of Lisbon is one of the 18 counties (distritos) of Portugal.

Santarém - one of the 18 Counties (Distritos) of Portugal - is a belvedere from which the visitor contemplates the lowlands that accompany the course of the River Tagus.
Santarém is also a municipality (municipality) - Ribatejo. Also known as the Queen of Ribatejo, Santarém is one of the oldest cities in Portugal. Capital of the county (distrito) of Santarém, which, on the surface, is the third largest district in Portugal. In 1868, dominating the lands of Ribatejo, Santarém was elevated to the category of city.

Location

The District of Santarém is located in Central Portugal. It is limited to the north by the District of Leiria and with the District of Castelo Branco, to the east with District of Portalegre, to the sol coms o District of Évora and District of Setúbal the west with the Lisbon District

Santarém's rich religious and civil heritage, also known as the Queen of Ribatejo and Capital of Portuguese Gothic, is one of the main reasons to include the city in your discovery of Portugal.

• Among the various churches of Santarém, the Igreja da Graça: inside it, the tomb of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the discoverer from Brazil.

Ribatejo is the land of "fandango", a typical music of the region, danced to the challenge by a couple of meadows.
