The County (State) of Setúbal, in central Portugal whose head office is located 363 km to the north of the city of Lisbon is one of the 18 counties (distritos) of Portugal.


The District of Setúbal, with 875,656 inhabitants (INE, 2021), is the 3rd most populous district in Portugal, behind only the districts of Lisbon and Porto.

The District of Setúbal is located southeast of Lisbon, in a territory comprising part of the former provinces of Extremadura and Baixo Alentejo.

Due to its geography, the District of Setúbal is partly in the AML - Metropilitana Area of Lisbon and in Baixo Alentejo. From Lisbon to the city of Setúbal, the capital of the District, it is only 30 km (in a straight line). By the path by road is 49 km (about 50 minutes by car).


Rich and Varied Historical and Religious Heritage

Castle, forts, convents and churches are some of the highlights of the rich and varied artistic, historical and religious heritage of the District of Setúbal.

With 5064 km², the District of Setúbal has a population of around 875,000 inhabitants (INE, 2021).


Location

The District of Setúbal is located southeast of Lisbon; is limited to the north by the Lisbon District and the District of Santarém, east with the District of Évora and Distrito de Beja, and to the south with the District of Beja. To the west, with the Atlantic Ocean.

Beautiful Beaches

Sea and beautiful beaches, Serra da Arrábida, Rio Sardo and economic growth. This is Setubal. A dynamic district and with important preserved natural heritage (Arrábida).


Arrábida Natural Park

A large natural park with an amazing native vegetation of the Mediterranean type in Portugal. This type of vegetation maquis is an attraction of its own for nature lovers. And, all this just about 50 km from Lisbon.
Among the largest trees present in the region, holm oaks, cork oaks and oaks stand out.

Ecology, Beautiful Beaches and Sports
There are several activities offered to athletes in this beautiful natural park with mediterranean features. Hiking, boating and diving in the waters transparent beaches of its very popular beaches, are the highlights.
