The County (State) of Porto, in central Portugal whose head office is located 314 km to the north of the city of Lisbon is one of the 18 counties (distritos) of Portugal.


The Distrito (County) of Porto - one of the Districts of Portugal - is the great Northern Metropolis, capital of the District of Porto, the Municipality of Porto and old Douro Litoral Region, on the banks of the River Douro, city Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the city of Porto radiates its influence far beyond the regional boundaries.

Second largest urban agglomeration

With an area of 2,395 km², the Distrito do Porto (County of Porto) has a resident population of 1,787,000 people (INE 2021), being therefore the second largest urban agglomeration in Portugal.

Location

Located in the Douro Litoral, north of Portugal, the District of Porto is limited to the north by the District of Braga, to the east, with the District of Vila Real, to the south with the District of Viseu and with the District of Aveiro, and west with the Atlantic Ocean.
