The County (State) of Bragança, in central Portugal whose head office is located 486 km to the north-east of the city of Lisbon is one of the 18 counties (distritos) of Portugal.


City, county and district of Northern Region of Portugal. THE city is also capital of the former province (and current sub-region) of Alto Douro Trás-Os-Montes.

Cold Lands and Warm Lands

To the north of the district are the so-called Terras Frias Transmontanas, while to the south, towards the Douro Valley, are the Terras Quentes. Transmontanas.

Bragança

The seat of the district and municipality of Bragança. In addition to the Domus Municipalis, the 14th century Keep stands out "in one of the most harmonious and well-preserved castles in the country.” It is the smallest wine producer in the district, with only 84 hl [IVV, data for the 2016 campaign].

Alfândega da Fé

Second smallest wine producer in the district of Bragança, with 664 hectoliters.

Carrazeda de Ansiães

First wine producer in the district of Bragança, with 40,494 hectoliters (of which, hl of red wines). It is part of the Douro Demarcated Region (RDD), a World Heritage Site.

Freixo de Espada à Cinta (RDD)

Second largest wine producer in the district of Bragança, with 30,040 hl. It is part of the Douro Demarcated Region (RDD), a World Heritage Site, and DOC Trás-os-Montes.

Macedo de Cavaleiros

With production of 7,698 hectoliters of Douro wines.

Miranda do Douro

DOC Trás-os-Montes, with production of 18,634 hectoliters of wines.

Mirandela

With production of 4,213 hectoliters of wines.

Mogadouro

DOC Trás-os-Montes. Second producer of rosé wines (19,662 hl) in the Douro region, behind only Pinhel (Guarda), which makes Mogadouro the Brigantine capital of rosé. In the district of Bragança, it is the third producer with 25,048 hl.

Tower of Moncorvo

With production of 21,739 hectoliters of Douro wines. It is part of the Douro Demarcated Region (RDD), a World Heritage Site, and DOC Trás-os-Montes.

Vila Flor

With production of 20,475 hectoliters of Douro wines. It is part of the Douro Demarcated Region (RDD), a World Heritage Site.

Vimioso

DOC Trás-os-Montes, with production of 1,811 hectoliters of wines.

Vinhais

With production of 16,821 hectoliters of wines.
