Beira Interior comprises Beira Baixa and Beira Transmontana (see Beiras). Rich in heritage - and good wines - in Beira Interior are some
of the most beautiful historical villages in Portugal.

The vineyards of Beira Interior (DOP) are spread over the slopes of Serra da Estrela, 500 - 700m high, in Pinhel and Castelo Rodrigo
(north of Guarda) and Cova da Beira, halfway between Guarda and Castelo Branco. Very lively red, Beira Interior (DOP) red wines are
very balanced wines.
Main breeds
For the production of wines from Beira Interior (PDO) the following grapes are used: Cal, Rabo de Ovelha, Syria and Malvasia Fina (whites),
Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro, Aragonez, Jaen and Touriga Nacional (red wines), among others .
Excellent Whites, Quality Reds
The white wines of Beira Interior (PDO) are neither too full nor have high alcoholic content, which is why the freshness of its acidity is
one of its characteristics.
Featured Properties
In these lands of high altitude vineyards the highlight goes to the vineyards of Rui Madeira, where some of the best wines of the region
are produced, such as the Beyra Superior and Beira Reserva, both red and white.
