Seixal

Seixal, Setúbal - City (31.600 inhab.) and municipality (184.300 inhab.) in the Peninsula de Setúbal of the district of Setúbal and in the Lisbon Region, Seixal is situated to the south of Portugal's capital, with strip of coastline. From Lisbon to Seixal there are just over 24 km.

Castle, Monastery and History - In addition to the famous castle, in the Monastery of Alcobaça there are the tombs of D. Pedro and Da. Inês de Castro.

It was in the parish of Aljubarrota where the important battle for the independence of Portugal was fought, the Battle of Aljubarrota (1385). Portugal commanded by D. João I defeats the armies of Castile and Leon commanded by D. Juan I. See also Batalha.
