The parish of
Parque das Nações Parish
was created with the transfer of land from the former parish of
Santa Maria dos Olivais (municipality of Lisbon, and with
lands of the parishes of
Moscavide and Sacavém, of the municipality (municipality) of Loures.
The parish of
Parque das Nações
is the
eleventh most populous parish in the
municipality of Lisbon.

Parque das Nações Parish is located in the extreme east of Lisbon.

modified by the holding of the 1998 Exhibition.

Expo 1998
The holding of the
Universal Exhibition in Lisbon had a profound impact on the
Parish of Parque
of Nations. Before that, the place was characterized by being an industrial zone. Being today a vast space
marked by modernity and cosmopolitanism, legacies of the 1998 World Expo.
Area and Population
Growth of the resident population
With 5.44 km², the
Parque das Nações has a population of 22,382 inhabitants
(INE, 2021). In 2011, the parish had 21,025 inhabitants (idem), having had a small growth in population
resident during this period.
Tourist attractions
The
Vasco da Gama Tower (the tallest building in Portugal), the
Lisbon Oceanarium (one of the largest in the world), the Church of
Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes (completed in 2014), the Pavilhão de Portugal, the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the Fountain of
Parque das Nações, the São Gabriel and São Rafael Towers, the modern
marina and many other attractions.
Oceanary
The
Lisbon Oceanarium is one of the largest of its kind in the world. In addition to its public aquarium (entry fee),
it also has a research institute on marine biology and oceanography. Oceanario is located in
Esplanada Dom Carlos I, at Doca dos Olivais, in
Parque das Nações.

Portuguese Pavilion
The
Pavilhão de Portugal, a grandiose architectural monument of contemporary style in the Portuguese capital,
designed by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, it is one of the main attractions of the City of Lisbon and
Parguesia do Parque
of Nations. It is located in Alameda dos Oceanos.

Tejo River to the south and east, the
Parque das Nações Parish borders,
to the north with the municipality of
Loures; to
the west, with the Parish of
Olivais
and to the south and southwest, with the Parish of
Marvila.
