Any curiosity about the origin of the name? Some claim that the name comes from "village of the sea" (Marvila),
while for others, the origin of the name probably comes from the Arabic
marbala
which means "soil abundant in bushes, heath". And this description well illustrates the situation of the parish,
where there were many farms and fields in this eastern area of
Lisbon.
A
Marvila Parish
is located at the eastern end of the city of Lisbon. From
Lisbon Cathedral to the
Marvila Parish
it is almost 7 km away by car.
