Parish of Carnide
The parish of
Carnide was created in 1279, as a large rural parish northwest of Lisbon. Also
included Pontinha and Casal Falcão.

the fifteenth most populous parish in the municipality of Lisbon.

The
Parish of Carnide is located in the extreme northwest of the City of Lisbon. From the Cathedral of Lisbon
It is 10.8 km to JF de Carnide by car. Carnide is a frontier parish: further west,
is the municipality of Odivelas.
Area and Population
Declining resident population
With 3.69 km², the
Parish of Carnide has a population of 18,029 inhabitants
(INE, 2021). In 2011, the parish had 19,218 inhabitants (idem), with a drop in population
resident during this period.

the Military College, the Convent of Santa Teresa de Jesus de Carnide, Quinta das Mercês and other attractions.
Sanctuary of Our Lady of Light

Church of Our Lady of Light, also known as the
Sanctuary of Our Lady of Light
it is of great importance not only religious but also historical: there is the tomb of Infanta D. Maria. O
set is declared a National Monument.

Centro Comercial Colombo is an excellent option for shopping in the parish. There are more than 400
convenience stores and services, supermarket (Continente). It is worth checking. Good shopping!

Location
With the
River Tagus to the south and southeast, the
Parish of Carnide
is limited to the north by the Parish of
Benfica,
to the northeast and east, with the Parish of
Ajuda,
to the southeast, with the Parish of
Alcântara,
and to the west and northwest, with the municipality of
Oeiras.

Aqueduct of Águas Livres
One of the postcards of Lisbon, the Águas Livres Aqueduct was built between 1731 and completed
in 1748. It worked until 1967.
