The parish of Avenidas Novas was created with the regrouping of lands from the parishes of Nossa Our Lady of Fátima and São Sebastião da Pedreira; is located north of the central and historic area of Lisbon, the Historic Center. Next to the beautiful Eduardo VII Park, Avenidas Novas is a privileged place to live just a few steps from Rossio and Praça do Comércio.

Avenidas Novas

Curious about the origin of the name? "The origin of the name Avenidas Novas appears, at the end of the 19th century, with the restructuring of the territory carried out by Ressano Garcia, in which the wide streets and the facades with landscaped patios, characteristic of Art Nouveau and Art Déco.
This urban renewal was inspired by the Paris Extension Plan, carried out by Georges-Eugène Haussmann, which Ressano Garcia attended while a student in the French capital" [JF de Avenidas Novas].


In the heart of Lisbon

Avenidas Novas is strategically located in the heart of Lisbon.
Located in the central area of Lisbon, the parish of Avenidas Novas it is the third parish going up from the Tagus River towards the north of the city: Misericórdia, Santo Antônio and Avenidas Novas.

From the Catedral da Sé to the parish of Avenidas Novas it is only 4.5 km from distance. In other words, it is very close to the Historical Center of Lisbon, which is a big plus.

With 2.99 km², the parish of Avenidas Novas it has a population of 23,261 inhabitants (INE, 2021). In 2011, the parish had 21,625 inhabitants (idem), having had a significant growth in the resident population in this period.

With 7,232 inhabitants per km², the parish of Avenidas Novas has a density population above the average of the Portuguese capital.

This new parish comprises a slope that goes down from Largo de São Sebastião da Pedreira and follow to Vala do Rego.

Gulbenkian Foundation Park

The Parque da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian is a beautiful park inside which is the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, a private institution dedicated to the arts, education and science. The Park and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation are an unmissable visit.

Location

Less than 5 km from the Historical Center of Lisbon, the parish of Avenidas Novas it is limited to the north by the parish of Alvalade, to the east, with the parishes of Areeiro and Arroios, to the south, with the parish of Santo Antônio, and to the west with the parishes of Campolide a> and from São Domingos de Benfica.
