Succinct chronology

• 1139 - Christian reconquest, and foundation of the Kingdom of Portugal from the Portucalense County, between the Minho and Douro rivers.

• 1185 - the Battle of Aljubarrota, on August 14, 1385, between Portuguese troops (and their allies English) commanded by King João I and the Castilian troops of João I of Castile. The victory of the Portuguese was decisive for ensure Portugal's independence from Castile. Read more below.
